A Note From The L.A. Teen Therapist
Some teens have been able to power through their online lessons despite distractions and temptations, to deliver a level of work that is quite respectable given the challenging circumstances. Other teens have come up against undiagnosed learning differences that were ameliorated by teacher support in a setting that encouraged focus and perseverance.
As logistics are being sorted out for resuming classroom learning in the fall, we need to make sure that our children are ready for what will most likely be an unfamiliar experience. It’s uncertain how sports and other extracurricular activities will be made safe. It’s also unclear if teens will have access to the same level of socializing they were accustomed to prior to the pandemic.
Therapy during the pandemic has allowed my teen clients to explore challenges they were having prior to staying home: Family dynamics, social dynamics and self-esteem to name a few. With ample time to reflect while sequestered at home, they’ve discovered a new understanding who they are, along with their personal strengths.
Instead of just rushing back into life as it was when our county re-opens, perhaps this summer could be used to help your teen mature, cultivate character strengths, and learn social and emotional coping skills that will hold them in good stead for the rest of their lives. In the absence of summer camp and other enrichment experiences — I am offering teens a therapeutic experience that is not only healing, but forward thinking, empowering, and fun to participate in.
Let me help your teen put into perspective what this time has meant to them, and lessons from this time they can take forward. This is also a wonderful opportunity to prepare them for whatever comes next in their educational process. Clients can meet once to twice a week for 50 minute sessions. Each therapeutic experience will be tailored to your teen’s personal needs, personality and interests.
